Rather busy week. Long days at work,  and the usual evening commitments. Disappointed that I’ve not had more time to browse and enjoy the internet this week. But here are a few things I thought were worth a mention:

Mother’s day today. of course my mother is holidaying in sunnier climes so no actual celebration. Spent the day watching the Formula 1 and various movies that have been on the TV all day – how lazy of me. If you too, like me are having a lazy day, be sure to catch up on some reading of from this week.

Another month drawing to a close as I write this weekly round up of things that have caught my eye over the past week. Unfortunately BT messed up my internet connection again, so there wasn’t as much browsing as perhaps I would have liked.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to do one of these postings last week as my internet decided to go down for like a week. So here are some of the things that have been keeping me entertained since my last end of the week post:

My Weekly Goals:

- The Book: At work we had a second hand book sale – loads of crime thrillers, chick lit and books “of the movie” seem to to be the most popular choices among the staff. So I picked up a few. This week I read – girly book: “Husbands” (Adele Parks) which is about a women married to two men, her “husband” and one from her student days who has resurfaced as the boyfriend of her best friend. Predictable, but rather fun and easy to read.

- The Movie: Originally bought “Taken” to watch this week (originally planned for valentine’s day) but we never got round to watching it and watched some panel show instead. unfortunately this week has been very panel show orientated, and my boyfriend has also gone and purchased Sopranos complete boxset. So no movies this week. All very sad indeed. But since I watched three the previous week that’s okay.

Another week has simply flown by, so here is another great selection of links to things I’ve been reading this week:

My Weekly Goals:

- The Book: The Rules of Work (Richard Templar)

- The Movie(s): Grease 2 and The Godfather.

So the first month of the year has flown by. This week has been all about the Apple’s Ipad, which I’m sure needs no introduction. But here is what everyone else has been talking about this week:

My Weekly Goals:

- The book: How to feel confident – Leil Lowndes – a waste of my time. I may be shy, but all of this I knew. General common sense. The book didn’t really inspire or give motivation to get you out of shyness, but instead, gave stories you could relate to, which in some ways made you think, well if everyone has these problems why do I even need to change.

- the movie: unfortunately lacked a new movie this week, Midsomer Murders took up usual film slot. Maybe I’ll watch Superman 3 tonight. Edit: Watched Superman 3, great fun, even if some graphics / special effects were cringeworthy. Also, worth it for the glance of Larry Lamb playing a miner.

- the mac: trying out iwork this week. will keep you posted.

- the recipes: tonight is our first roast dinner taken from Rachel Allen’s Home cooking programme which we watched yesterday.

In reflection I find that it has been a quieter week, busy in real life, quiet on the internet front (maybe the two are interlinked). In what must surely be one of the last 2009 round-up posts Eric Goldman has put together a fantastic list of the top cyberlaw developments over the past year. Also to round off the its-a-new-year hysteria here is a collection of wonderfully innovative calendars to draw some inspiration from if the last of the snow fall has put your calendar shopping on hold. Fantastic designs for inspiring creativity whether you are in the market for a calendar or not.

Part of my huge list of  New years resolutions has been to eat more healthily at work. Issues being lack of time and the fact that I leave the house at 5.30am when I am half asleep. Corporette had a good post this week: what to eat when you have no time to eat summing up my current situation perfectly and providing me with some ideas and comments that are worth digging into.

On another topic, inspired most likely by recent snowfall are the posts championing working from home, (at least every once in a while) – covered brilliantly both by Jason Plant and Peninsulawyer – I can totally relate to the advantages of this after wasting 5 hours trying to get into work on my worst day only to not make it.

Aside from the legal / working related stuff other points of interest this week have been the shocking tale from Kim of face me, I read lips who expanded on her fear of phones and people’s lack of understanding about those who are deaf / HOH. A story I can relate to. I also finally got round to watching the trailer for the lovely bones, fantastic book, but I am a bit doubtful about the success of the movie. It’s not got a lot of attention, so far. I don’t know if it’ll be a big enough movie to be released as an accessible film with subtitles so may have to wait for dvd release. What else have I been talking about this week? Well I finally got my new diary (well one of them) and tried out a new set of notebooks (black toast a6 set of three).

My Weekly Goals:

- the book: Queuing for Beginners – Moran has taken simple everyday things that you normally wouldn’t give a second thought and made them an interesting talking point. Particular enjoyed learning about things like letter writing and the history of the full english breakfast. Would recommend.

- the movie: Kiss the Girls is a psychological thriller, based on the book of the same name (which I haven’t read unfortunately despite having read other Patterson books) and stars the never changing morgan freeman in the lead role of Alex Cross. Very good and entertaining if a tad on the predictable side. Get it!!

- the Mac: Experimented with Things this week which in many ways is an over-complicated to do list with a hefty price tag (2 weeks free trial). Hold on while I get my 59p spiral notebook from Tescos and some stickies. But all things considered I have enjoyed using it.

- the recipe: bit of a disaster this week with my curry – unfortunately there was olives in the tinned tomatoes and this didn’t go down well.
